7.2x split is between low PHY and high PHY where L2, L3 and most of the L1 processing is centralized at DU, and low PHY and RF processing is performed at RU. Following is a list of characteristics (nature) of 7.2x split.

The MCG and the SCG are concepts in dual connectivity (DC, Dual connectivity). It may be simply understood that the MCG is located in a group in which a cell in which the UE first initiates random access (RACH) is located. If there is no dual link, there is no concept of MCG and SCG.

The digital front end consists of digital up converter, digital down converter, digital predistortion and crest factor reduction. Distributed Unit: The Distributed Unit (DU) connects to multiple radio units in the southbound. interface, and to the Centralized Unit (CU) in the northbound interface.

DU stands for Distributed Unit. It is a component of the 5G mobile communications standard that provides the radio processing and control functions for the component of the 5G radio access network.

Split Bearer: A bearer for which traffic is routed via LTE and/or NR bearer. Split bearer is further either SCG split or MCG split. MCG Split: Traffic is splitted at MN node, refer Fig 0. SCG Split: Traffic is splitted at SN node, refer Fig 0.

The long answer: Open RAN disaggregates traditional monolithic, single-vendor radio access networks (RAN) into a distributed unit (DU), centralized unit (CU) and radio unit (RU) and connects these elements using open standard interfaces.

RU: This is the radio hardware unit that coverts radio signals sent to and from the antenna into a digital signal for transmission over packet networks. It handles the digital front end (DFE) and the lower PHY layer, as well as the digital beamforming functionality.
