With the "@reply" feature, Stack Overflow allows you to notify users directly by typing the user's name preceded by the "@" symbol (for example: @rsmith). This will create a notification in that user's global inbox. While entering or editing a comment, typing "@" will provide a list of users you can notify.

You have to post it as a answer. It's not mandatory to post an answer. If you want to leave an answer in a comment (due to any reason), it is OK. It is however advisable to post an answer if you have time, because answers are more permanent, and can be upvoted/downvoted to indicate usefulness.

How do I comment? Click the "add a comment" link under each post. Comments cannot be multi-line, so simply press enter to submit your comment.

A single line comment can also be written within a block of code. This is called nesting. Nesting is when a comment or an additional block of code is placed inside of another block of code. The compiler will skip over the comment and continue to process the lines of code that follows.

Provide context for links. Links to external resources are encouraged, but please add context around the link so your fellow users will have some idea what it is and why it's there. Always quote the most relevant part of an important link, in case the external resource is unreachable or goes permanently offline.

You cannot mark a comment as an accepted answer. There is a deliberate distinction between comments and answers; this is one of them. Common protocol is to ask the commenter to post an answer so you can accept it.

How do I vote up? Click the large up arrow to the left of a post, or the small up arrow to the left of a comment. You can undo your vote by clicking the same button you used to vote, so click the up arrow to undo an upvote or the down arrow to undo a downvote.
