Stick Required Field Resolution For Free

As the Resolution Field is a Required Field, if it is added to a "Default" Screen, newly created or edited issues will be in a Resolved state as the field would be populated by the Default Resolution Value.

To set the resolution field on a "closed" issue: Open your project > Click project settings > Click workflows on your left sidebar; Find the relevant workflow, then, on your right corner, click the pencil icon to edit it; Click + Add transition;

You don't, there is no way to set the Resolution field to not be required. Jira is hard coded for the Resolution field to always be required when it appears on a screen.

This work around worked for me. Remove the Resolution field from all views but the Closed screen. Remove the default value for the Resolution field. Set a Validator up so that the Resolution field must be changed when transitioning to Closed.

Click 'Add POST Function > Select 'Update Issue Field' Select Resolution for Issue Field and the appropriate Field Value.
