Outputs let you know where you want to go, but they're ultimately out of your control. And while inputs are controllable, they alone don't always lead to results. Inputs need something to work toward. Higher education is one example of how outputs and inputs can work well together.

Input-output tables can be created for whole economies or specific economic segments within them. They can be used to analyze the effects of changes in one component on the economy and plan the production levels in multiple industries that are required to satisfy predetermined consumption targets.

Supply-Use tables provide the key accounting mechanism to ensure that there is coherence between the various sources of data and approaches countries use to estimate GDP ? expenditure, output and income. They also have the potential to inform a wide range of policy areas.

The essential difference between the supply and use tables and the symmetric input-output table is therefore that the former tables relate products to industries and the latter table relates products to products or industries to industries.

Input-Output Tables (IOTs) describe the sale and purchase relationships between producers and consumers within an economy.
