British usage favours omitting the full stop in abbreviations which include the first and last letters of a single word, such as Mr, Mrs, Ms, Dr and St; American usage prefers (A) Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr. and St., with full stops. Most other abbreviated titles, however, require a full stop, as shown above.

However, if it is necessary to use an acronym or abbreviation in a table title, you can do so, but make sure you explain the abbreviation/acronym in a footnote. In case of common acronyms, such as the one you have mentioned, it should be acceptable to use it in the table title or caption.

Leave the use of any abbreviations, acronyms and/or initials to the main body of the dissertation. In the title, such abbreviations, acronyms and/or initials could lead to confusion, as well as have different meanings for different people.
