To get the most out of the exit ticket process, questions should: Be short. Where possible be open ended. Linked to the learning intentions (and success criteria) of the lesson. Focus on skill(s) or concept(s) being taught. Allow students to demonstrate understanding.

On the exit card, you ask your learners to: Write down 3 things you learned during today's lesson. This could be anything from vocabulary words to equations or new-to-them information. Write down 2 questions you have about today's material. Write down 1 thing you need more help with from today's lesson.

Typically, exit tickets are not formally graded because they are intended to be a formative assessment to inform the teacher. However, you may wish to take the opportunity to have the style of an exit ticket worksheet for students to complete before they can leave the classroom.

You don't always have to print out your exit tickets. Try posting a question based on the lesson on your whiteboard. On the way out of the classroom, each student can give you what they think is the answer. This will give you a sense of how well the lesson hit!
