A simple method of determining the location of electrical interference is by using a portable battery-powered AM radio tuned to a quiet frequency at the lower end of the dial. You should hear static or a buzzing sound as you get close to the source of the interference.

If the offending RF interference is more than about 20 MHz, ferrite clamshells, which are easily installed over the outside of a cable, can be effective. In most cases, they work best when placed on the cable at or near the receive end.

The detection and measurement of radiated RF waves is achieved by means of a measuring system consisting of an antenna (probe) and a receiver (Figure 4.1). For low RF levels, the signal passed on by the probe to the receiver needs to be amplified.

The first place to look for interference is on a test port, or similar tap, on a radio's receive antenna. This gives the spectrum analyzer or monitoring system the same signal as the radio is seeing. The second step in finding an emitter is to be able to see the signal with a portable antenna.

RF detection devices can be used to identify any RF interference that might impact communications. Spectrum analysis devices can be used to determine the frequency and received strength of RF interference.

The networks rely on radio frequency, not an internet connection and radio frequencies can be hard to trace through GPS but it's not impossible. Two-way radios traceability can be seen as a negative, but it also can be used to a company's advantage to allow you to trace your employees whereabouts.

Radio wave frequency can be interfered with by a large number of items, including electric blankets, air conditioners, toaster ovens, and hairdryers. Additionally, devices used to communicate with other devices (cell phones, laptops, devices that utilize Bluetooth connections, etc.)
