While Airtable automatically backlinks records in different tables, it does not automatically backlink records in the same table. With Airtable Automations, you can create an automation to connect the main project to the sub-project automatically. This automation ensures your projects are connected correctly.

CONCATENATE() This function joins together arguments and/or field values from any number of fields into a single text value, and follows this format: CONCATENATE(Value 1, Value 2, etc...) Notice the addition of " - " as a separator between the fields.

In the "Then" action, select "Create a new record" and select the table where you want the copied information to be stored. In the "Fields to set" section, set the values for each of the relevant fields: the linked record from the other table, the checkbox, the single select, the long text, and the attachment.

To bring up the linked record picker while in a grid view, click the + button inside a cell. To bring up the linked record picker while in an expanded record, click the + Link to a record from [table] button. Either way, when you bring up the linked record picker, you'll see a list of records that you can link to.

The idea is, to trigger the Merge script, simply tick the record tick-box, and then the Automation will trigger and merge the old and new linked fields into the merge field.

Add a new field to one table, and choose ?linked record? as the field type. Then link to the second table, and you can easily look up a record in one and associate it with the other.
