About 2,000 years ago, inventors in China took communication to the next level, crafting cloth sheets to record their drawings and writings. And paper, as we know it today, was born! Paper was first made in Lei-Yang, China by Ts'ai Lun, a Chinese court official.

Papermaking is the manufacture of paper and cardboard, which are used widely for printing, writing, and packaging, among many other purposes. Today almost all paper is made using industrial machinery, while handmade paper survives as a specialized craft and a medium for artistic expression.

Where It Began. Paper as we know it, was invented in China, AD 105, by the Chinese Eunuch Ts'ai Lun. It was, thin, feted, formed, flat made in porous molds from macerated vegetable fiber.

Paper made from it used to be called "mill-broke" and was considered a substandard product; now it is often called "recycled". Post-consumer waste is paper which has already been in circulation. It has to be collected, perhaps sorted, and de-inked before being used in the manufacture of recycled paper.

Paper is strong because it is produced by the pressed fibers of cellulose pulp derived from wood. As well as being strong, it is versatile, durable and sustainable. All of these qualities make paper an ideal medium for protecting goods in transit, but there are even more benefits to using paper.

Paper was used for printing important books.It is primarily used for writing, artwork, and packaging; it is commonly white.

With the conquest of Sind by the Arabs, Khurasani paper was first introduced in India early in the eighth century AD, and it continued to be imported for several centuries.

The birth of paper, as we know it today, took place under the Chinese Han Dynasty in AD 105. Ts'ai Lun, a court official, invented a papermaking process which primarily used rags (textile waste) as the raw material with which to make paper.
