Use Text Paper For Free

"Text" is a generic name for a variety of lighter, thinner paper stocks that includes Book, Bond, Writing, Ledger, Offset paper. Text paper is flexible, can be easily rolled and folded and is used for printing flyers, handouts, letterheads, book pages, etc. The paper used in ink jet printers would be considered Text.

Please note that 80# text weight is a paper weight and 80# Cover weight is a card stock; although they have the same number marking them, they are two completely different papers. To keep things simple, we at CutCardStock refer to all text weight as paper and all cover weight stock as card stock.

Cover paper (also called ?card stock?) is heavy paper used for projects like business cards, postcards, and rack cards. Like text paper, weights range from 60# to 100#. Because cover paper is a thicker stock, it has a smaller basis size (24? x 36?) than text and bond papers.

Bond paper is manufactured exclusively to be uncoated sheets. While text weight paper is manufactured to be uncoated or coated. You will never find a glossy or a matte ?bond? sheet. However, the uncoated text shares a lot of the same manufacturing processes as the matte and glossy ?text? sheets.

Cover VS Text A cover weight paper is going to be thick, similar in feel to cardstock. Text weight papers are thinner, more similar to catalog and magazine paper. A paper labeled "cover" is always going to be thicker than a "text" paper. For example, 100# Gloss Cover is going to be much thicker than 100# Gloss Text.

This is called a ?basis weight.? Text paper is cut from a larger starting sheet than writing paper, so the basis weight is also larger. This is why you'll see text weight papers listed as 60#, 70#, 80#, etc. Writing paper is cut from a smaller sheet, so it's usually listed as 20#, 24#, 28#, etc.
