No person shall use an alarm system without first obtaining a permit from the City. Alarm permits are not transferable. Persons obtaining possession of alarm properties must file an application for an alarm permit within 30 days.

Alarm Permit Application If you have an electronic burglar alarm system installed within the city limits of Charlotte or the unincorporated areas of Mecklenburg County, it must be registered. Auto, Fire, and Medical alarm systems are excluded. A permit is valid for 12 months from the date of issuance.

Residential, business and commercial alarm systems must be registered with us, and renewed every year, if they are monitored, or if they have flashing lights, sirens, or anything else that causes the police to provide services.

(1) A contractor must file a Uniform Fire Alarm Permit Application as provided in subsection (3) with the local enforcement agency and must receive the fire alarm permit before installing or replacing a fire alarm, if the local enforcement agency requires a plan review for the installation or replacement.

Fire alarm permits are required by Section 11-48(4) of the City of Tampa Fire Prevention Code (Ordinance No. 89-234) and are not transferable.

For any burglar alarm system not currently registered with us, you must complete and submit an Alarm Permit Registration Form, renew annually, and pay the appropriate fee. Renewal fee: $15 if the burglar alarm system had no false burglar alarms requiring police dispatch during the prior registration period.

All alarm systems in the city must be registered by applying for an Alarm Permit. This includes residential, business, and commercial alarms (monitored and non-monitored alarms). There is no fee to register the alarm.

Residential users of security alarm systems do not need a permit but are encouraged to complete the application form so that the Police Department has emergency information about their property and information about who to contact in the event an alarm is activated.

In each food facility, at least 10 feet from any room used for storage or display of food or merchandise must be a ceiling at least one-fourth its width above the floor. (5) A certificate of occupancy, written to accompany a certificate of title, signed by the real estate agent of a property described in subsection (1), or by a certified public accountant licensed under chapter 487, may be issued stating that there is a security or alarm service contract issued under s. 488.
