Does sick pay reset every calendar year? In many locations that require employers to provide paid sick leave, employees can carry sick leave accrued in one calendar year into the next year. However, the maximum number of paid sick hours an employee can take per year will remain unchanged.

Section 22(1) to 22(4) of South Africa's Employment Act stipulates that during each 36-month cycle starting from the first day at work, an employee is entitled to a paid sick leave. And this should be equivalent to the exact number of days that they usually work in a typical 6-week period.

According to Texas Government Code, Section 661.202(c), a full-time employee accrues sick leave at the rate of eight hours for each month of state employment. A part-time employee accrues sick leave on a proportionate basis.

It targets attempts by several Texas cities to mandate benefits for employees. In the past three years, Austin, Dallas and San Antonio passed paid sick leave ordinances, but court rulings have kept them from being enforced.
