If your gym has a fitness trainer, your company may be subject to the following requirements: (1) Fitness instructor certification: If the gym offers classes in one or more of the following areas, then your gym must have an instructor certified in the area or areas listed as follows: Balance training — aerobic (running, walking, etc.) Strength training — resistance, exercises that produce pain, and muscle strengthening Strength and conditioning Jumping or balance training (not gymnastics) Athleticism Self-preservation Cardio conditioning Lung capacity (running) Ceremonial dance (not ballet or other forms of dance) Strength and conditioning for people with disabilities If your gym does not offer physical fitness classes, then the fitness instructor training requirements are not applicable. Your gym must provide you with the training you need to make fitness available to yourself and others.
