In accordance with a second aspect of the present invention, a step of performing a search for a foreign filed application for which patent rights are available is performed by computer. The search is performed for each foreign filed application for which an application file number is provided. The patent status of the applications is then determined with respect to the foreign filed application. A list of foreign filed applications for which patent rights are available is then prepared and transferred to patent applicants who have been designated by a patent office having the authority to grant the assignment.
